My 8 year old daughter got to sing onstage with Train!

You may know the songs “Hey Soul Sister”, Drops of Jupiter”, “Marry Me”, “Save Me San Francisco”, and “Meet Virginia”… That is our favorite band!

Last weekend, there was a tragedy at the Indiana State Fair just before the Sugarland concert. The wind brought down the stage lights onto the crowd & 7 people were killed. It was awful. Continue reading »

I love this!

It definitely applies to my job as a photographer. So many think that it’s easy, but it’s far from it. Then, many fail… I guess that’s the bigger point of the video… it’s universal.

Just thought I’d share. 🙂

Had a great time at Train concert last night!

Fun little clip from last night’s Train concert, from my cell phone… They got little kids out of the crowd to sing with them, and gave them all matching shirts. Then Pat (the singer) put one on too (KIDS size lol… it was funny!!!). I love when he busts the girl on the right for not singing too haha!

Beautiful new song

Edwin McCain has been my favorite singer/songwriter since 1995 when I saw him play at Circle Center Mall to a crowd of about 9 lol. Since then, he has had a pretty great career with a couple huge hits “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask For More.” I actually got to play guitar with him in November of 2000 at WZPL.  Here is another great new song from him.

My skydive trip today!

I have wanted to go skydiving for as long as I can remember. So, when my friend Christy asked me to go… now was the time!

We went to Skydive Greensburg, and let me tell ya… those guys are fantastic! Everyone was so funny and really made it a great experience.

If you ever thought about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, go to Skydive Greensburg. And buy the DVD and pictures too. It is a great time that you will remember forever!

My friend Casey took these shots on the ground.  Another skydiver took the two in the air.

My trip to Senior Portrait Artists “family circle”

I just got back from the Senior Portrait Artists (SPA) “Family Circle” in Louisburg Kansas. It is a 2 day event with some of the best senior portrait photographers in the country. What I love about SPA is how everyone makes you feel so welcome, and the open sharing of information about the business, and the art of photography.

I am soon going to be offering some great new products that I saw at SPA headquarters. I am very excited!

In the spirit of the open sharing, and teaching, I spoke to the group about some of the things I have planned this year, including a big event I am doing in December. Pretty cool stuff I will be announcing later. 🙂

I also have a pretty amazing announcement coming in just days… Stay tuned, it is going to be awesome!

I took very few pictures while I was there… it was more about teaching and learning. Here are a couple snapshots from the trip.

Fun times at Greenwood Park Mall.

In the senior photography business, it is sometimes hard to find time to spend with family… especially this time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful and blessed that my business has been growing steadily and I rarely have a day when I am completely off without a shoot, photo viewing, retouching an order, working on marketing, or just studying to improve my skills.

Well… I had a photo shoot yesterday afternoon, but yesterday morning was all family time!

We went down to Greenwood Park Mall & my oldest daughter Lily had a great time playing on this trampoline/bungee thing they have set up in the south end of the mall. I don’t even know what to call this thing, but it is cool!

We tried to get my youngest daughter, Katie, to do it too… but she wanted no part of it lol. She was just fine watching Lily.

Then we played on the playground for a while. It was a great day with the family. 🙂

Lily’s Song by Mike Turner

I must admit I was a little nervous
The day you came into my life
But in your eyes I saw my purpose
And in your smile I saw my wife

And the first night that I brought you home
I sung you a lullaby
I’ve never felt a love so strong
To this I testify…

I will do the very best I can
As sure as the sky is blue
Whether you are happy or sad
You will never doubt that it’s true
Daddy loves you

When you get older
And your boyfriend does you wrong
You’ll still have my shoulder
My love will still be strong

And let me just make this addition
I thank God for you everyday
My love is without condition
And whenever you want to play…

I will do the very best I can
To always make time for you
Whether you are happy or sad
You will never doubt that it’s true
Daddy loves you
Daddy loves you. 🙂

The next big thing in music?

Most photographers come from an artistic background. I am no exception. I am a singer/songwriter. I have been playing guitar since early high school. In 2003, I decided to write and record a CD of my own music. It was kinda my last “hoorah” in music I guess. You see, I was starting a family at the time and realized I had nothing to show for all of my years of playing music… besides maybe some hearing loss from playing in Mike Smith’s basement for all of them years. 🙂

If you would like a copy, just ask & I will give you one. It is really good. I am very proud of the music I created, but am I the next big thing in music? No way. But I will tell you about a band that might be…. SHOULD BE!

I was wanting some cool music for my website, and I love to support unsigned artists when I can. So, I started going through the bands that are my “friends” on Myspace to see if I could cross promote with someone who I thought had great music.

I came upon The Everyday People http://theeverydaypeople.com/ and I loved their sound so much that I didn’t even ASK anyone else! They were gracious enough to let me use their music on my site, & I will as soon as I figure out how to re-size a song to a smaller file… I am still learning about website stuff. Ugh!

So… let me tell you a little about this CD. It is unbelievable! The songwriting, the musicianship, Jeffery David’s amazing vocals… all top notch! You can hear their music for yourself at http://theeverydaypeople.com/ but you really need to buy the CD to truly appreciate it. The sound quality is comparable to a multi-million dollar production that you get from nationally signed artists. Actually, it is better than a lot of “big name” bands. Sonically, every instrument seems to have it’s own “space”. For example, on my favorite song “The Hard Way” you can still very clearly hear the acoustic guitar even when the song is rockin’ the power chords. You find this clarity throughout the entire CD. It sounds good on a computer, but you really need to buy the disc so you can hear it on a nice sound system. It is worth it, I promise.

And the best part… there is not a single song that you will want to skip. But you might push rewind to hear one again before moving on. 🙂
